Tornerai in Friuli?

David: Noi amiamo molto l’Italia e continuiamo a venirci almeno una volta all’anno.

David: Credo sicuramente Sebastião Salgado o Steve McCurry.

CFP: Grazie David, buona luce!

David: Grazie a voi, arrivederci!

L’originale dell’intervista in inglese:

CFP: How did your passion for photography started?
David: When I was a Navigating Officer in the Merchant Navy in 1980 I bought an SLR when I paid off my last ship and that was that; I was captivated by photography. I t was like a light being switched on!
CFP: What memories remained from the experience in Cividale for our 40 years celebration event?
David: Being welcomed to Friuli and talking to a full house of some 450 people was one of the most uplifting moments of my career; Wendy and I will never forget it.

CFP: You’ve been in our country many times now. What do you like the most and what the less of Italy? When will you come back? Will you be back in Friuli?
David: We love Italy and continue to come at least once a year. Since our visit to Friuli we’ve had a few weeks in the Dolomites last September and next May/June we’ll be in Emilia Romagna, Umbria, Tuscany and Liguria. A return to Friuli to photograph some of the fabulous locations you introduced us to is definitely on the cards, maybe in 2017.

CFP: What is among your pictures the one you are most proud of? (Kindly, can you attach it in low res?)
David: That is such a tough question! I think this one (attached) of Wendy on the sand dunes in Namibia is one that means a lot to us both because it sums up the life of travel, adventure and exploration we’ve had together.

CFP: Who is among the other photographers the one you like the most?
David: I guess I would have to say Sebastian Salgado or Steve McCurry.

CFP: You took lots of pictures and published several books: in a world that is increasingly becoming digital, how do you see the future of printed images?
David: I think because most of us spend so much of our time both at work and at leisure looking at a screen there will be a resurgence in the popularity of looking at images as beautiful prints, either on a page or on the wall. In fact I think that is already happening.

CFP: We are a Photography Club, a group of friends who share a passion for photography: what is your thought about clubs?
David: Clubs are what their Members make them. We have visited many clubs and what is interesting is how different they all are. Your club seemed to have a wonderful vitality about it with a healthy range of ages and sexes. Some clubs have very obvious hierarchies and rigid procedures but the best are forums where members can share their enthusiasm and creativity in a mutually supportive environment.

CFP: You’ve traveled all over the world, is there one particular place among the ones you have not visited yet that you would like to go and why?
David: I’m increasingly aware that Russia is a country I’ve yet to visit. I’m sure it will present challenges but I think I’m going to have to do it.

CFP: What are your plans for the coming months/years?
David: We’re off to Iceland tomorrow, then will be roving around Europe in spring/summer and am off to Canada in the autumn. Beyond that we’re committed to continuing to publish features and videos from our photographic travels all over the world every month in our Chasing the Light Online Magazine http://www.davidnoton.com/chasing-the-light.asp which we publish monthly exclusively for our f11 Members.
